Start from the ground report, not the picture.

Shafts, helical plates, flange heads and extensions made to your foundation design. A product image cannot confirm capacity, torque or corrosion life.

WHAT IS BEING MADE

The pile is a set of steel decisions.

A helical pile enquiry is manufacturable when the geometry is numeric. The shaft is a tube with an outside diameter, a wall and a length. Each helix has a diameter, a thickness, a pitch and a position along the shaft. The head is a flange, a plate, a U, or something that meets your column. Extensions and couplers exist only if the install length is longer than the piece you want to galvanize or ship.

RIBSPAN can coordinate those components against a drawing. The decision that the pile is adequate for the soil and the load belongs to the project engineer, using the ground investigation and the design method the project has adopted.

Geometry to put on the drawing

  • ShaftOutside diameter, wall thickness, steel grade and overall length of each piece.
  • HelixDiameter, thickness, pitch, number, and distance from the tip or from a datum.
  • HeadFlange diameter, hole circle, slot, or the beam seat it must accept.
  • JointsCoupler type, bolt pattern, and whether extensions are in this order.
  • TipCut, formed or fitted, and any wear surface the installer expects.

Three inputs that are not optional.

Without them, a price is a guess about a different pile.

Ground

A soil report, or the design parameters your engineer has already extracted from it. “Normal soil” and “similar to the last site” are not fabrication data. If the report cannot be shared, the engineer’s written pile schedule can stand in for it.

Loads and method

Compression, tension, lateral demand and the installation method: machine, torque indication, and any refusal rule. The head and the coupler have to survive installation, not only the in-service load.

Corrosion allowance

Design life, coating system and any extra steel the engineer has added for section loss. Hot-dip after fabrication is a common request. It is not a substitute for the allowance the design requires.

WHAT THIS SUPPLY IS

Fabrication to an agreed schedule. Not a capacity certificate.

The order can cover steel grade, weld quality as specified, dimensions, coating and packing. It should say who reviews torque records and who signs the foundation. Those are often the contractor and the engineer, not the steel supplier.

If you need a sample pile, define what the sample is for: fit of the head, a coating check, or a trial installation. A single trial does not create a general load rating for the next site.

Read the longer brief in what a screw-pile enquiry must contain. The same caution is in the project checklist.

Questions that should be closed early.

Can you confirm load capacity from a photo or a diameter?

No. Capacity depends on geometry, material, helix arrangement, installation and the ground. Those have to be assessed for the project.

Do you publish a standard torque chart?

No. If your engineer has specified a relationship between installation torque and capacity, send that instruction with the order. We will not invent one for the website.

Can piles be shipped in pieces?

Yes, when the coupler is drawn. Say the maximum piece length the galvanizing, the container and the site machine can accept. Those three limits are often different.

Who owns the weld specification?

The drawing does. If it asks for a stated weld size and inspection level, that scope is quoted. A silent drawing does not imply a certified procedure.
