PRODUCTS · FORMED BRACKETS

Small parts. Critical connections.

Brackets, cleats and plates made around your assembly. The useful quotation describes the flat pattern, the bends, the holes and the finish — not a generic “steel bracket”.

WHERE THEY SIT

A bracket is a fit problem before it is a price problem.

Most of these parts exist to put two other members in the right place: a rail to a purlin, a tray to a hanger, a plate to a column, a cleat to a beam. If the holes do not meet the mating part, the coating and the unit price do not matter.

Send the mating information with the bracket drawing. That can be the section size it clamps to, the slot it must clear, the bolt grade, or a marked-up photo of the existing assembly. A sample can start the discussion. Production still waits for dimensions, material and acceptance criteria.

Geometry that changes the process

  • ThicknessSheet or plate thickness, and whether it is nominal or a minimum after coating.
  • BendsInside radius, bend direction, and whether the drawing is a flat pattern or a finished view.
  • HolesDiameter, slot size, pitch, edge distance, and which holes are critical.
  • EdgesBurr limits, chamfers, and any edge that a cable, a glove or a seal will touch.
  • WeldsIf a nut, a gusset or a second plate is welded on, show the symbol and the side.

Material and finish are separate lines.

Name both. “Galvanized bracket” can mean three different cost structures.

Carbon steel

Common discussions start from grades such as Q235, Q355, S235 or S355, or the equivalent standard your project already uses. Confirm the standard. Do not assume a Chinese grade and a European grade are interchangeable without checking chemistry and mechanical properties.

Stainless steel

304 and 316 come up when the environment, the specifier or the mating fasteners require them. Say which, and say if a finish such as 2B, brushed or passivation is part of the acceptance.

Coating route

Hot-dip after fabrication, pre-galvanized sheet then formed, electro-zinc, powder over a prepared surface, or bare steel for a coating applied by others. Each route changes holes, threads, bend radii and packing. The comparison is in the finish guide.

QUOTATION SCOPE

What the price is actually covering.

A usable bracket quotation separates tooling or programming, sample cost, unit price at the stated quantity, finish, hardware if any, packing and the trade term. If those sit in one number, you cannot see what changes when the quantity doubles or the destination moves.

Tolerances should be explicit on critical features and ordinary elsewhere. Asking for a tight tolerance on every hole, every bend and every overall length raises inspection time without making the assembly better. Mark the features that locate the mating part.

Details buyers often leave off

  • RevisionThe PDF and the CAD file must be the same revision. Say which one wins if they differ.
  • UnitsMillimetres or inches, on the drawing, not only in the email.
  • HardwareWhether bolts, nuts and washers are included, and to which standard.
  • MarkingPart number, heat or batch mark, and whether a label may be adhesive.
  • PackingLoose, nested, or kitted per assembly. Export cartons need a weight limit.

The short field list is also in the drawing checklist.

Before a bracket is released.

Can you match a bracket from a photo?

A photo can identify the family and start questions. Hole pitch, thickness, radius and material still have to be measured or drawn before production.

Do you keep a catalogue of standard cleats?

This desk quotes drawing-based parts. If your project uses a repeated cleat, we can treat that drawing as the standard for your orders. We do not publish a load-rated catalogue of generic brackets.

Will the sample match the batch?

Only if the sample is checked against a named drawing revision and the accepted deviations are written down. A verbal “looks fine” is not a specification lock.

Can coating be decided after the sample?

Yes, but it is a new scope. Thickness, drain holes, masked threads and packing all move when the finish changes. Re-quote that line instead of assuming the bare-steel price still applies.
